P. Baer:
Vankru and its founder Garth Kruger were recommended to me as a one-stop shop for my road bike queries. Going into a long-distance triathlon, I wanted to do everything possible to ensure my bike was set up as well as it could be; that I was sitting right to maximise power and minimise injury; and that I would learn a few things about my bike and cycling in general that I could carry with me for the future. I achieved all this and more: Garth, himself an ex elite cyclist, painstakingly tweaked the bike using some very impressive sensor technology, and explained at length how and why to achieve the best position. Last but not least, a great guy and I would highly recommend spending some time with Garth to get the most out of your bike.

I visited Vankru looking for an expert bike fit and that is exactly what I got. Garth's experience and attention to detail has really improved my comfort on the bike and I'm actually looking forward to the 180km Ironman ride planned in June!
David A. - Otterbourne:
Firstly, a series of tests were done to measure core strength and flexibility. The flexibility being key to the final set up.
The RETUL system is a real-time measuring system that tracks a number of LED probes attached the key joints on your body. I did a series of short efforts of various intensity, while being recorded. This was done on the right and left side to pick up differences due to technique and limb length differences.
The system measures movement in three dimensions - up and down and side to side. Unlike usual static measurements that most bike shops have, this provides an "averaged" set of measurements that will typically occur when on a bike.
Once the measurements are complete, the system provides a table listing a host of measurements e.g. knee angle, position of foot, back angle etc. The system does not provide a comparison to the "perfect" set up - this is down to the fitters judgement and training.
With the data, the bike saddle was raised (by quite a lot), the saddle pushed back and the handle bars raised.
The left and right side were then measured again, and further adjustments made. In all it took 2hrs.
Once complete, the bike geometry was recorded so other similar bikes can be adjusted in the same way.
In my case, priority was to get fitting right to sort out a niggling knee and hip problem - while early days, my rides since the fitting have been fine.
