Hi Garth
As you were heading south on Sunday I was riding for the first ride on the changed position in wall to wall sunshine. I wish you could have been there. I am a changed rider.
I was out with some really fast guys who normally end up giving me a right pasting, but not anymore.
Results:
Before a comfortable cadence was about 85 rpm
Now 100/105 rpm with ease and bags more power along with a lower heart rate. I beat them on the climb (King of the mountains, for this ride anyway) and the sprint into Ballater.
Power output up, Cadence up, Heart rate down, and to quote Lance “NO CHAIN”.
The changed position has just transformed my riding and for once these guys got the pasting. What a blast.
I can honestly say this is the most cost effective £120.00 that I have ever spend on cycling.
Thanks again
David Morris
Retül Bike Fit.
All cyclists benefit from being correctly fitted to their bike. Whether you are a racer, mountain biker or commuter, correct fitting is vital for comfort, pain prevention, efficiency and speed. Ideally, you would be fitted before buying a new bike so that you invest in the correct size and type of bike.
Many riders spend years riding in a poor position, possibly absorbing the low-level pain or discomfort as part of the general experience of cycling. The answer might be to have your bike professionally fitted to you.
I use the most up-to-date and accurate fitting tool (as used by Andy & Frank Schelck, Lance Armstrong, Bradley Wiggins and Mirinda Carfrae, winner of Kona Ironman World Championships) Protour teams include: Team SKY, Geox, Garmin, Radioshack.
Retül provides the most accurate bike fit information available. The data is yours to keep; the measurements can be used to set up another bike or, if you decide to treat yourself, for a new bike. The data is far more accurate than a static set of measurements that a bike shop will typically take.
Most bike fitting specialists fit riders in a static position, using the traditional tools of the trade - tape measures and plumb bobs etc - which do not allowfor accurate measurements while the rider is pedalling.
Using motion capture technology, Retül records the rider's positions in motion, therefore creating the most realistic picture of the rider's actual pedal strokes and body positions when out on the road and trails
An accurate and skilled fit will ultimately save you money and give you that better feeling you’ve been searching for.
What happens during a Retül bike fit?
In summary
1. Riding questionnaire. How much do you ride? Any injuries or discomfort? Your goals?
2. Warm up on the trainer.
3. Flexibility, core strength assessment and lower limb anatomy check.
4. Check shoe/cleat/foot/pedal interface.
5. Digital measurement of existing bicycle setup.
6. Positioning of motion-capture dots and LEDs on 8 anatomical positions.
7. Record measurements as you ride at different intensities. (Nothing crazy!)
8. Make adjustments to bike set-up and re-measure riding position. (A number of times!)
9. Once correctly fitted, digitally measure and record final bike setup.
In detail
After an initial discussion about your riding history, goals and any injuries, a series of tests is done to measure your core strength and flexibility. This isn’t an examination to pass! But knowing your natural flexibility, strength and leg/foot anatomy and function is key to the final set up.
The Retül system is a real-time 3D measuring system that tracks 8 LED probes attached to key joints on your body. After a warm up, and the positioning of the LEDs, the rider does a series of short efforts at various intensities which are recorded.
Measurements are taken on both the right and left side, to pick up any differences due to technique or anatomy – it’s common to have slightly different limb lengths or functional issues with your feet!
The system is able to take both vertical (up and down) and lateral (side to side) measurements, thus providing a three dimensional recording. It records 29 full sets of body data per second, so it produces a huge amount of data in a short period of time. It captures key measurements such as knee angle, position of foot, back angle etc. This is the data the fitter uses to analyse your riding style, for example, the way you usually move your hip or knee might have a significant effect on your riding.
Next the fitter will suggest and carry out changes to your bike. This is repeated until the optimal fit is achieved.
Once complete, the bike geometry is recorded and emailed to you, with your body data, so that you can adjust similar bikes, or know your perfect set-up if you decide to treat yourself to a new bike!

I visited Vankru looking for an expert bike fit and that is exactly what I got. Garth's experience and attention to detail has really improved my comfort on the bike and I'm actually looking forward to the 180km Ironman ride planned in June!

I cannot recommend this service highly enough, Garth really knows his stuff, and my bike setup is radically different. I believe that all members who used his service were very impressed.

K. White:
"Thoroughly impressed with the results from my Retul bike fit with Garth, who set up my Focus Cayo for both road and TT. The whole bike fit process was very enjoyable and informative. The advantage of changes being made to my position during my fit were clearly explained using the abundance of data being collected. They were also clearly visible from my "stickman" pedalling furiously away on screen. On the rides since the bike fit I have noticed more power, efficiency on the hills and greater comfort. I had a 50mile ride on Sunday and it felt great, especially going up hill. Highly recommended."
