About Us

Working from our studio in the village of Lower Upham near to Winchester and Bishops Waltham, we provide professional bike fitting, performance testing and bespoke coaching plans, biomechanical assessments and sports massage.

Our studio is situated a short distance between Southampton and Portsmouth and just outside Winchester. We are 10 minutes off the M27 making us easily accessible for those travelling from further afield.

In either direction are beautiful cycling areas including Meon Valley, the South Downs and Test Valley.

Garth Kruger

As founder of Vankru Performance Cycling, having competed on the road and track for over twenty five years (including as a semi professional rider in Italy), Garth created Vankru Cycling with a desire to use his knowledge and experiences to help athletes excel and overcome the hurdles each and every one of us face.

Attending the first European Retul University Course in 2010, he has since been established as one of the longest recognised Retul fitters in Europe and, in 2013, became one of 4 Master Retul Bike Fitters in Europe and the first one in the UK.

Corne' DeVilliers:

Corne' is an admin machine, making sure all the behind the scenes work is done. Including all the bookings and emails. Chances are she will be your first point of contact with us!

Mark joined Vankru Cycling in early 2016, after developing an interest for cycling biomechanics back in 2010 with the first course of Specialized's Body Geometry Fit run in the UK.

He has since progressed through the training levels to become one of just a handful of "Certified" recognised fitters in the UK.

Competing in South Region road and criterium races, some cross-country mountain bike events and as a regular to his cycle club of choice, Mark brings passion and experiences of multi-disciplines of riding to share with his clients.

We are highly experienced, fitting professionally for over 10yrs and are ranked as Level 4 Certified Bike Fitters (the highest possible) with the International Bike Fitting Institute (IBFI), placing us amongst the best bike fitters in the world.

Level 4 certified fitters can act as mentors to other bike fitters.

Garth was the first Retül Master Fitter in the UK.

Mark was the first Body Geometry Certified Fitter in the UK. We were also listed in Top 10 Bike Fitters in the UK - Cycling Weekly and have lectured at Southampton University on bike fitting.

Both have worked with athletes at the top of the sport and have received training from the very best teachers of bike fit, including: Todd Carver (founder of Retül), Andrew Pruitt EdD (Founder of Body Geometry Fit), Paul Swift (Founder of Bikefit) and Jon Irriberi (Bike Fitter for World Tour Team Lotto-Jumbo).

Bike fit education includes Retül University, Body Geometry Fit, BikeFit, CycleFit, all accredited to the highest level.

We are also qualified soft tissue therapists.

Continued professional development includes neurology courses, electromyography, feet, therapeutic kinesiology taping, movement screening.

Retül Certification (formerly the Master’s Motion Analysis Exam) is the highest level of training available through Retül University. Following on from Level 1 and Level 2, certification consists consists of written and practical examination with a Retül University Instructor. Candidates must demonstrate thorough anatomical knowledge, precise marker placement and understanding of fit principles and data analysis for road, mountain and TT bikes.

Body Geometry Certification is the highest level of training available through Specialized Bicycle Company University. Experienced Bike Fitters who have completed Level 1 and 2 can put themselves forward for certification. where they must pass a written paper and carry out a bike fit observed by leading experts to prove thorough understanding of bike fit methodology.

As the second oldest bicycle fitting system in the world and created by cycling legend Paul Swift, BikeFit provide ongoing training and seminars for bike fit education, as well as products for improving cyclists' connection to their bike through cleat shims and wedges.
